Moonlit Lake

I woke to the sound of rustling in the bushes. I sat up and glanced around uneasily, looking for the source of the noise. Nothing. I peered towards the lake to see the silver moon reflected across the glass smooth water. Suddenly...

  1. My necklace slipped off; plunging into the water. The smooth glass was disrupted as ripples vibrated the still water. I leaned in closer, if I could only see the bottom I could fish it out.

Plums of muddy water rose to the surface, a green shimmery hand with gills slowly surfaced breaking through the reflective water, grasping my necklace in it's webbed fingers.

  2. Suddenly, I realized it wasn't a hand at all. This was the town cesspool!

  3. the moonlight had been playing tricks on my eyes. that was no hand and those certainly were not gills. floating in the cesspool was what typically floats in a cesspool. I pondered to myself.. do I really want that necklace back badly enough to fish around in a cesspool?
